The governments of Rwanda and Belgium have vowed to boost Vocational Training Centres (VCT) in the country.

The joint-training initiative was launched yesterday where 455 trainers started a month-long training at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC)/South, at Kavumu in the Southern Province.

The training will be conducted by the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) and the Flemish Association for Development Co-operation and Technical Assistance (VVOB) and it will benefit trainers from ETO Gitarama, CFJ Mpanda and CFJ Nyanza.

The training will aim at strengthening trainers’ technical and instructive capacities in priority fields that include domestic electricity, plumbing, construction, public works, automobile electricity, welding, electronics, automobile mechanics and cooking.

In her remarks, Fatina Mukarubibi, the Deputy Director General of Workforce Development Authority (WDA) said that trainers’ training was necessary for quality service delivery in all vocational centres.

Mukarubiri revealed that WDA is also looking forward to hosting trainers from Singapore in the near future to boost the capacities of the local instructors.

She however decried lack of finances as one of the major hindrances to building quality vocational centres, however expressing optimism that the shortfall was being addressed through partnerships.
