The African Union Commission (AU) has welcomed the resolutions of a summit of President Paul Kagame and his DR Congo counterpart Felix Tshisekedi, which took place in Doha, mediated by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday, March 18 to seek a solution to the crisis in eastern DR Congo.
The leaders "reaffirmed the commitment of all parties to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire” as agreed at the EAC-SADC summit held on February 8 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

AU Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf praised the two leaders for their commitment to dialogue and a peaceful resolution to the crisis in eastern DRC.
"Their engagement reflects true leadership and a shared recognition that peace, security, and stability are indispensable for the prosperity of their nations and the wider Great Lakes region," he said in statement on Wednesday.
The AU also acknowledged the reaffirmation by both presidents of their commitment to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
Emphasizing the importance of African-led solutions, Youssouf reaffirmed its support for the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes, noting that the Doha discussions align with these regional efforts.
He called for continued coordination between the AU, regional economic communities, and international partners to foster lasting peace in the region.

Youssouf also extended his appreciation to the State of Qatar and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad for their role in facilitating dialogue and building confidence between the two nations.
He reiterated the AU's readiness to support ongoing peace efforts, in line with its mandate to promote stability across the continent.
