RUBAVU-The just concluded tripartite meeting that brought together police officers from Rwanda, Sweden and South Africa has agreed on the third phase of the cooperation program. 

"We have agreed on phase three of the project and Swedish International Development Agency has agreed on the funding of about three million US dollars.

It will support the project in the areas which are in line with Police’s five year strategic plan,” said Chief Superintendent Jimmy Hodali, the coordinator of the program for democratic policing.

The conference held Friday in Rubavu, was evaluating the results of the cooperation between the police of the three countries.

According to Hodali, phase three has adopted new areas of cooperation in road safety, crime prevention with emphasis in community policing, planning, functioning and training.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Hodali  commended the Swedish National Police for the financial support since the project was launched in 2003.

"The Swedish government has been close to this project in phase one, two and now. At least USD 4 million from SIDA has been utilized by the project.”

According to acting Commissioner General of Police, Mary Gahonzire, the project has registered  great success
"The project has helped us very much mainly in being more effective in service delivery to our community and I hope it will continue to register more success,” she said.
