KIGALI - The outgoing Head of Delegation for the European Union, David McRae, has commended the government of Rwanda on the strides it has taken towards development in a very short time.

Speaking at a cocktail party organised in his honour by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, McRae said that he has been honoured to participate in some of the programmes.

"During the period I have been in Rwanda, I have been privileged to have witnessed and participated in many development projects that have been taken up by the Rwandan government,” McRae said.

"I am also impressed by the quality of leadership of this country which has enabled the execution of all the projects that we have been undertaking together in all this period that I have been here.”

The EU has been one of Rwanda’s biggest donors that channel funds through the national budget. The EU has financed reforms in the Judiciary and different socio-economic projects.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosemary Museminali, commended the out going diplomat for his efforts in helping Rwanda achieve its goals.

"He has helped us in tackling the many problems that the government of Rwanda endeavoured to tackle during his term of office by working side by side with us through all this period and we are grateful”.

"So much has been done by the European Commission through him, and these include putting up of various infrastructures, poverty reduction programmes and a lot has also been done in helping the East African Community integration process,” she said.
