MUSANZE – Property  worth millions of Francs was lost when a fire destroyed four shops in Musanze town, on Tuesday night.

MUSANZE – Property  worth millions of Francs was lost when a fire destroyed four shops in Musanze town, on Tuesday night.

The fire which broke out at about midnight destroyed hardware products, including cash amounting to over Rwf 4 million which was from the previous day’s sales from the razed shops.

Nadine Munezero, a local administration official  said the cause of the fire had by press time not been established. She estimated the loss at more than Rwf 50 million.

In the incidence a vast majority of the traders stand to lose their investments, as sources revealed that out of all the affected only one trader had insured his shop against fire.
 "All my wealth has gone up in smoke.

I worked for many years to accumulate what has now gone down the drain,” Anicet Nzabonimpa, said with tears rolling down her cheeks. 

It took, a combined effort of local authorities plus mobilised residents and officers from Strabag a construction and engineering firm to extinguish the fire.
