MUA Insurance Rwanda Limited (MUA Rwanda) marked International Women's Day on March 7, with a special event dedicated to empowering women in business.

The company also launched MUA Femme, an insurance product designed exclusively for women, reinforcing its commitment to deeping financial inclusion and business growth.
Recognising the unique challenges women face in balancing work, home, and personal responsibilities, MUA Femme provides solutions that ensure peace of mind and immediate assistance in times of need.
"Women often juggle multiple responsibilities, and unexpected situations can arise, whether it’s a car breakdown, an empty fuel tank, or an emergency at home requiring immediate attention. In such moments, MUA Femme steps in to provide quick, reliable support,” said Aisha Mselem, the head of customer experience and marketing at MUA.
"If your car breaks down or runs out of fuel, we will dispatch assistance right away. If you need to rush home but face a mechanical issue, we’ll provide a replacement vehicle while taking care of repairs. On top of these benefits, we also offer exclusive discounts for women who insure both their homes and cars with us.”

Mselem also said that women have a lot on their plate, and emergencies shouldn’t be an extra burden. With MUA Femme, they provide immediate solutions, ensuring that women feel supported and secure in every aspect of their lives.
Speaking at the event, a Mireille Umwali, the Board Director at MUA stressed the need for financial institutions to step up efforts in bridging the gender gap.
"While Rwanda leads in women&039;s representation in government, we still have work to do in the financial sector. Our goal is to ensure women-led businesses have equal opportunities to grow and succeed,” she said,
"The gap between men and women in business is significant, and COVID-19 made it worse. That’s why we are committed to providing innovative financial solutions that allow women to build and sustain their businesses without interruption.”
Umwali also said that women are not just celebrating women today but we taking action.
"This new initiative is a step towards ensuring women have the financial tools and support they need to thrive in business. We have come a long way, but we still have progress to make. Let’s celebrate our achievements while continuing to push for more representation in business and finance,” said Umwali.
The event, also held in collaboration with Le Village de Femme, a platform dedicated to empowering women through access to finance, advisory services, and capacity-building programs, which introduced EmpowerHer, a three-month initiative supporting 50 women entrepreneurs across various sectors.
The programme aims to equip participants with financial knowledge, boost their confidence in engaging with banks and financial institutions, and provide tailored insurance solutions for their business needs.
"Our goal with EmpowerHer is to ensure that women entrepreneurs feel confident in approaching banks and financial institutions. We want them to see themselves as key players in the business world,” said Aretha Mutumwinka, the Executive Director of Le Village de Femme.
"Women entrepreneurs face unique challenges when it comes to financial inclusion. This programme is designed to bridge that gap by providing them with the right tools and resources. Beyond financial literacy, we also want women to understand the importance of insurance for their business assets. With EmpowerHer, we’re preparing them for long-term success.”
