THE TOUCH:Hand it down

It’s said that some people are born into fashion whereas others are just here to form its audience. Remember Jessica Parker, a ‘sex in the city’ star who left us all wondering whether we needed to break our already dwindling bank accounts to be able to buy the clothes she flashed on every show.

clothes we adore

It’s said that some people are born into fashion whereas others are just here to form its audience. Remember Jessica Parker, a ‘sex in the city’ star who left us all wondering whether we needed to break our already dwindling bank accounts to be able to buy the clothes she flashed on every show.

She and other celebs like her make us all feel like fashion audiences with huge price tags attached to beautiful clothes that seem too far to reach.

There are some like me who have not put theft past consideration when clothes and shoes are involved.

But there is a better and legal way of bringing out star wardrobe closer home through embracing the variety on second hand clothes.

It’s not classy but believe me no one ever knows the difference.

Understanding fashion requires one to fully be aware of what is available and work on purchasing what you can afford. Stars unlike you have wardrobe stylists an advantage yes but a learning platform for all of us.

Doesn’t just copy a look because it looks good on a celebrity rather understand it and apply it in your own fashion. Second-hand clothes give you a chance to experiment on clothes that may not be available in your local market.

I think every fashion label has an equally good affordable look-alike. Second-hand clothes are now all over our markets, Remera, Kimironko and Nyabugogo leading us into the craze of enjoying new possibilities.

The beauty of hand me downs is that they are fashion labelled, unique and are great, just like new clothes.

When buying second-hand clothes ensure that they are in good condition, just because they are hand me downs doesn’t mean they should be old and ugly.

The price attached to them is mostly dependent on their present conditions.

Don’t forget someone owned these clothes before you so wash them thoroughly before wearing them.

Your sister has handed you old clothes and now thanks to second-hand clothes revolution, so can Beyonce. So who is complaining?
