The Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Service, Evariste Murenzi, is in Seychelles on a three-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in correction facilities management.
The visit follows a previous trip by Seychelles' Commissioner of Prisons, Janet Gorges, to Rwanda.

The two institutions made conclusions on the Initiated Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in correctional services and potential training programmes and security enhancements.

The agreement signed in September 2024 during the Seychellois official, is now being assessed to gauge progress and identify next steps.
A key of Murenzi’s visit is exploring the feasibility of joint training programs for correctional officers and strengthening security measures at Seychelles&039; prison facilities.
On Thursday, Murenzi and his counterpart discussed various areas such as prison security, rehabilitation programmes, and capacity-building initiatives.
Murenzi also met with Seychelles’ Minister of Internal Affairs, Erol Fonseka, who stressed the importance of advancing cooperation between the two countries’ correctional systems as a critical component of overall law enforcement efforts in Seychelles.
Murenzi and his delegation toured key detention and prison facilities, including the Detention Remand Facility at Bois de Rose and the Primarily Perseverance Detention Facility.

These visits were aimed at exchanging best practices and reviewing operational standards. Additional tours are planned for other facilities, including Montagne Posee Prison and the High Security Facility at Bonn Espoir.
The visit builds on the ongoing diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Seychelles, which have included previous high-level exchanges. Notably, President Kagame of Rwanda visited Seychelles in June 2023, where six MoUs were signed.
Furthermore, President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles attended the inauguration of President Kagame in August 2024.
This reciprocal visit demonstrates the continued commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the areas of correctional services and law enforcement.
