HUYE – The district Mayor, Francois Uhagaze on Thursday inaugurated construction works of a six classroom block at Karama Primary School in Karama Sector.

The construction is being funded by a Non Governmental Organisation, Human Help Network Rwanda in conjunction with  a Partnership known as Rhineland-Palatinate/ Rwanda.

Speaking at the function, Uhagaze called upon parents and area residents to build on the support by development partners. "We shall always strive to build upon the support of development partners. Their support should only come to supplement local initiatives,” he said.

The Mayor called upon parents to join hands and participate actively in building more classrooms that will accommodate lower secondary school students in the next academic year.

The district needs 88 new classrooms and related amenities.
Esther Kronsbein, the coordinator of Human Help Network in Rwanda, said that her organisation mainly focuses on the education sector because it is critical to national development.

"Education places a key in the hands of children that will open doors for a self determined future,” said Kronsbein, adding, "We are happy to be associated with this important component of the country’s development.”

Human Help Network was founded in 1990 at Mainz / Germany; it focuses on the eradication of poverty and issues related to children and adolescents.

Michael Nidden, of Partnership for Rhineland Palatinate said that the partnership seeks to promote rural development especially through education.

"Education is a cornerstone in the development of any given country. We commend government’s efforts in developing this sector,” said Nidden.

The Rhineland Palatinate mainly supports technical education. It has supported teachers mainly through provision of teaching materials.
