Izuba Rirashe is two years

The New Times sister Kinyarwanda tri-weekly, Izuba Rirashe has made two years in operation. According to the publication’s editor, Kim Kamasa, the paper plans to open bureaus across the country, in positioning itself as a leading vernacular in the country.

"Although the paper has faced challenges of publishing the hardcopy, it has been a success and many readers can access it online,” Kamasa said.

Kamasa said that Izuba Rirashe covers a wide variety of topics that include; News, Justice, Business, Environment, Education, Health, Sports and a lot more.

Export prices up

A significant drop in prices of Rwanda’s premier exports brought down by the global recession are beginning to pick up – rising by 2.60% in June from May, the latest report has indicated.

The prices of exports are starting to show an upward trend because the international market is improving after the economic crisis which has paralyzed the global economy, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

The Producer Price Index for manufacturing sector (PPI-M) for goods mainly produced for exports stood at 179.46% in June, representing an increment of 2.60% compared to the previous month.

Ngoma holds exhibition

Residents of Kabuye in conjunction with students of Rwabuye Technical School in Ngoma district are currently holding an exhibition that started on August 15.

According to exhibitors, the exhibition has different items that were not showcased in the just completed international trade fair that took place in Gikondo.

MINLOC meets Karongi leaders

The Ministry of Local Government yesterday held a meeting with the local leaders and residents of Karongi district in the Western Province to discuss the development of the district.

William Ngaboziza, an official in the ministry said that MINALOC plans to build 200 houses in the district as a way of promoting the communal settlements (Imidugudu) in the district.

Ngabonziza added that leaders of all the sectors will soon meet to select areas where the estates will be built.

RPF members met

Over 250 members of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) in Rubaya yesterday met to celebrate the achievements they have accomplished this year and to lay strategies for the future.

Among the achievements celebrated included preparation of terraces on over 50 hectares, planting fruit trees among others.

During the celebrations, members came up with a strategic plan to put more emphasis on developing the sector.

Students to be trained

University and secondary school students who are members of Rwanda patriotic Front (RPF) in Kicuciro district will hold a meeting on Friday at hotel La Pallise in Nyarugunga to train how they will go about the forthcoming 2010 polls.

According to Joseph Kazungu, the RPF Executive Secretary in Kicuciro, the training is aimed at enhancing students with the new ideas of how they can participate in the coming 2010 polls.

Journalists train on HIV

A two-day workshop was organized in Huye for radio moderators in Rwanda and Burundi radios to train on how to handle talk shows on HIV/AIDS programmes.

The workshop which ends today was aimed at creating more awareness on HIV/AIDS amongst the populations of the two countries.

Dr. Jean Pierre Dusingize, who is in charge of education on HIV/AIDS at the National Centre for the Fight Against AIDS (CLNS), called upon all moderators to also use people with HIV/AIDS to sensitize people.

Food poisoning lab tests still on

The suspected food poisoning that killed two juvenile prisoners at Nyagatare prison last week is still in laboratories for test, an official has revealed.

Thirteen others were hospitalized at Nyagatare hospital in the Eastern Province.

The suspected food from the prison had been sent to National University of Rwanda’s laboratory for tests.

However, yesterday, Assumutah Uwimana, the director of Nyagatare prison made assurances that results will be out this week.
