FILED CASE: John Bosco Mutangana.

KICUKIRO - The Kagarama Court of Lower Instance, has set September 2 as the date for the first court hearing of a defamation case, State Prosecutor, John Bosco Mutangana has brought against a local tabloid Umuvugizi.

"The date has been fixed, both parties have been summoned,” the court President Janvier Muhire, confirmed yesterday.

The head of the Genocide Fugitive Tracking Unit accuses the Umuvugizi paper of slander, abuse, defamation and invading his privacy.

Mutangana filed the case at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) early this month which was later transferred to Nyarugenge public prosecution after investigations.

Recently Richard Muhumuza, Nyarugenge state prosecutor said all necessary evidence has been gathered for the trial to begin.

The state prosecutor Muhumuza said the author of the article and editor of the tabloid, Bosco Gasasira violated article 11 of the media law which indicates restrictions of what a journalist should publish.

When contacted for comment Gasasira told The New Times that he was ready for the court battle.

"I have everything and all facts, if he wants he should go to court,” Gasasira said.
