Editor,

If, as speculation says, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda will send the genocide archives to Kenya, I want to register my disappointment as a Rwandan.

I was shocked as I read about it in The New Times.

The archives include testimonies and tens of thousands of hours of video-taped court proceedings that have been amassed over the last 15 years of its operations.

As Theodore Simburudari, said this would be a wrong decision following all the solid reasons that Rwanda has given to have the archives transferred and kept here.

It’s very crucial for us as Rwandans to have our archives transferred to Rwanda for future references.

Upon the transfer to Kigali we would be able to teach the next generations about the reality of what happened and how it damaged our country.

The crimes were committed here and committed against Rwandans so it only right that we own all the evidence of what happened here.”
