THE incumbent RNOC president, Ignace Beraho has urged local sports federations to choose by ballot capable administrators, who will take the country’s Olympic Committee to a new level.

He also pleaded for his efforts to be recognized.
Beraho said on Friday that his wish is to have competent leaders in the new RNOC Executive Committee, which will be elected on December 27.

"I admit that in the past eight years that we’ve been in office, we didn’t do everything but there is some work that was done, which deserves recognition.

"So I expect whoever comes in after us to continue from where we’ve ended, instead of sabotaging the foundation we’ve laid,” Beraho said.

He therefore appealed to the relevant federations to elect competent people. He said, "Vote for capable leaders, who have visionary ideas of developing sports in this country.”

Beraho has been at the helm of the local Olympics body for the past eight years of the mandatory two four-year terms as the committee’s constitution stipulates.

He declared that he’d not been seeking another term after a disastrous Olympic Games campaign in Beijing.

In his eight years at the helm of the Olympic Committee, Rwanda has recorded one Olympic medal in Jean de Dieu Nkundabera, who won a bronze medal during the 2004 Athens Paralympics Games.

Now, the authoritarian RNOC boss has vowed to remain an active sports advocate by embarking on coaching national athletes to realize what he calls his dream of seeing Rwanda win a medal at the 2012 London Games.
