NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBI—The Save the Children organisation donated 109 Bicycles to all members in charge of social affairs at the cell level in Gicumbi district.

The ceremony to hand over the bicycles took place at Gicumbi district headquarters this Friday November 2. In attendance was vice-mayor of social affairs Eugenie Uwamahoro, the administrative officer at Save the Children Mbasa Rugigana, and NGO programme coordinator Jacqueline Umukiza.

In her speech to the beneficiaries, Uwamahoro cautioned all those involved in district social affairs against using the equipment for their own personal business.

"These bicycles shall be used to coordinate all activities concerning children rights at the cell level,” Uwamahoro said, calling further for beneficiaries to sensitize communities on how the new vehicles could be used, as well as calling for action against child torture, defilement and neglect or outright denial of education.

Other districts shall also benefit from these donations as soon as funds are available”, said Mbasa Rugigana.
