Cecafa stakes cash prize for U-17 winners

Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has confirmed that $30,000 (Rwf.17m) will be staked for winners of the upcoming Cecafa/Bashir U-17 challenge cup which kicks off on Wednesday in Sudan.

Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has confirmed that $30,000 (Rwf.17m) will be staked for winners of the upcoming Cecafa/Bashir U-17 challenge cup which kicks off on Wednesday in Sudan.

Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye told Times Sport through email yesterday that the winners will pocket $15000 while the first and second runner-ups will bag $10.000 and $5.000 respectively.

Musonye also confirmed that Nigeria has been replaced on the fixtures by Malawi who has already confirmed their line-up.

"Nigeria has sent an apology following a directive that all their players should travel to Germany for medical test ahead of FIFA U-17 World cup to be hosted in Nigeria,”
