KIGALI - Four employees of the Bourbon Coffee, Union Trade Centre (UTC) branch, were arrested a fortnight ago, for allegedly stealing at least Rwf 8m from their employer, The New Times has learnt.

The arrests were yesterday confirmed by police spokesperson, John Uwamungu.

He said the suspects were arrested and detained at Kigali Central Prison, but could not reveal their identities at the time of going to press.

"Their files have already been sent to prosecution,” Uwamungu revealed.

A source at Bourbon Coffee told The New Times yesterday that those arrested were senior managers.

"Police also quizzed other employees,” the source who declined to be named said by phone.

According to the source, those arrested included store and operations managers who were on duty at the time the alleged theft occurred.

It is alleged that the employees connived to steal the money before the cashier could bank it.

One of the arrested managers is said to be of Kenyan origin and has been with the chain of coffee houses for a long time.

According to our source, the suspects are said to have walked away with a safe containing the money in the middle of the night.

It added that the management team was fired and they have already been replaced.

Bourbon Coffee is an emerging chain of coffee shops in Rwanda with three operations in Kigali and one in the United States.
