A tragic road accident in the Kanyinya sector of Nyarugenge District in the City of Kigali claimed the life of a 47-year-old man on Saturday, February 15.
The accident, which occurred at around 7 a.m., involved a minibus traveling from Gakenke District in the Northern province to Kigali with 19 passengers on board.
According to police reports, the minibus crashed into the rear of a Benz truck while descending a hill.
Rwanda National Police Spokesperson, SP Emmanuel Kayigi, confirmed the incident and stated that emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. The injured passengers were transported to various hospitals in Kigali for medical treatment.
"The police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, but the driver indicated that he experienced brake failure while going downhill,” Kayigi said.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such accidents.
Police urged drivers to prioritize mechanical inspections rather than waiting until they face penalties, emphasizing that ensuring roadworthiness can save lives.
This latest accident comes just days after another fatal crash on the same route in Rulindo District, where 20 people lost their lives and several others were hospitalised.
The incidents highlight ongoing concerns over road safety and vehicle maintenance in the country.
