APR football academy is scheduled to organize a regional youth football tournament on August 27-30 at Nyamirambo stadium.

The academy vice president, Aime Kayinamura told Times Sport yesterday that the aim of this tournament is to promote local youth talent.

"We have invited youth teams from Burundi and Uganda to spice up the three-day tournament, whose aim is to promote youth football,” Kayinamura said.

The three-day gala, which will be played in different age groups from U-7 to U-15, will bring together about 160 kids from Le Message football academy owned by Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza and the other 100 will come from Uganda, Ferwafa academy, APR U-15 team, Lions junior side (Kiramuruzi) and Impala from Kizuguro.

APR will be using the tournament to make the final selection of who will join the club academy.

They have already made a pre-selection of 132 boys from different parts of the country.

The boys ranging from 13-15 years of age will be cut down to 30 by end of the year.
