Mukantabana elected FFRP President

The Senate’s second vice- President, Marie Mukantabana, has been elected new President of Rwanda Women Parliamentarians Forum (FFRP), replacing Speciose Mukandutiye whose two-year mandate came to an end two weeks ago.

The Senate’s second vice- President, Marie Mukantabana, has been elected new President of Rwanda Women Parliamentarians Forum (FFRP), replacing Speciose Mukandutiye whose two-year mandate came to an end two weeks ago.

Lower Chamber Member Speciose Mukakanyamugenge, was elected the forum’s vice- President replacing Ignantienne Nyirarukundo.

The election also saw Alphonsine Mukarugema and Jeanne d’Arc Uwimanimpaye replacing Senator Agnes Kayijire and MP Saidat Mukanoheri as Secretary General and Treasurer respectively.

In her remarks, Mukandutiye appealed to the new committee to work together in ensuring that the forum succeeds.  She urged the new committee to work on the formation of Rwanda Women Minister’s Forum.

The lawmaker called on the new committee to continue the good relationship that exit between the forum and its partners among them the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and African Development Bank (AfDB).

The incoming forum President, Marie Mukantabana thanked the outgoing committee for their commitment and promised to continue with their good work.

She observed that since its inception in 1996, the forum has made some remarkable achievements, especially in the field of gender balance, but said there is still a lot to do.
