GICUMBI – The Rwanda Red Cross on Tuesday trained about 18 volunteers in Byumba Sector to help them provide  humanitarian services to needy people in the area.

The one-day training which took place at Byumba Sector attracted historically the marginalised groups, cell coordinators and orphans.

The Red Cross president in Gicumbi District Theogene Ndimukaga said participants were drawn from across the sector.

"Their work will involve forming Red Cross Committees at sector and cell levels,” said Ndimukaga.

The Rwanda Red Cross coordinator in the province, Eugene Karangwa said they intend to help orphans and other vulnerable persons to enrol in schools, get decent shelter and health services while supporting their income generating projects.

"The project has started in Byumba Sector but it shall spread to all the 21 sectors of the district,” he said.
