Yesterday, Kigali City Council (KCC) got a new female Councillor to represent Nyarugenge District on its Advisory Council. Madina Mutagoma was sworn in after being elected in a by-election to replace Rosarie Aime Mukabalisa who left the council for a full time job at the district.

According to the electoral coordinator of Kigali City, Felicien Kagisha, the law stipulates that a councillor has to be replaced from the district that they previously represented.

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, Local Government Minister, Christophe Bazivamo, advised the new councillor to always work closely with her fellow councillors in order to benefit the people they are supposed to represent.

"You should always work industriously and always give the people constructive advice because that is what they need. You should always struggle to solve the problems of the people that you represent,” Bazivamo said.

The minister also encouraged the councillor to promote good governance by helping to implement government policies and to block anything that can lead to misuse of public funds.

Speaking to The New Times, Mutagoma promised to follow Bazivamo’s advice.

"I am going to work hard in solving the problems of the people and will also work hard to set an example as a leader,” she said.

Mutagoma also vowed to work tirelessly in supporting the implementation of developmental policies and to fight all forms of corruption.
