HUYE- The Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni has advised the district to encourage public-private partnerships in order to spur rapid development within the regions.
He made the remarks while presenting a paper on the public- private partnerships, at a consultative meeting organised by Huye District on Sunday.
"The partnership is meant to attain a common goal of championing transformation at a faster pace,” he said, stressing that the two institutions have a shared destiny.
Basic infrastructure like town roads, classroom blocks and poor working relationships between the different levels of local administration were cited as some of the challenges facing the district.
The district, it was revealed, needs 88 new classrooms and 179 toilet units to cater for pupils expected to continue school next academic year.
Mayor, Francois Uhagaze told participants that there is need for concerted efforts in order to realise the district’s development.
"Over the years, we have had a situation where people pointed fingers at each other.We need to work as a team if we are to move our people forward,” said the Mayor.
Governor, Fidele Ndayisaba, disclosed that the province constructed 222 new classrooms this year alone. And he called on parents and other development partners to put more emphasis in building classrooms.
"Education has been decentralised so as to involve local communities in the process. Everybody is expected to contribute to the success of this programme,” he said.
Government is set to disburse funds directly to the local units for the purposes of buying inputs to be used in the construction of facilities.
During the meeting, different institutions pledged support to the district’s development agenda and called for the formation of a coordinating committee to track the progress.
The meeting which was meant to discuss the challenges to the district’s development drew in different development partners in the district.
It was attended by the Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza among other government officials.
