The Tumba College of Technology and ETO Muhima emerged the best in a science competition dubbed the Pulley and Gear-box mode engineering race held at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre, at Kicukiro over the weekend.

The competition was organised by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the Kicukiro College of Technology.

The competition attracted participants from ten technological colleges, including the National University of Rwanda (NUR) and the Kigali Institute of Technology (KIST).

In his remarks, Joseph Mfinanga, the Principal of Kicukiro College of Technology commended the competition as a direct way through which students can develop their skills in technology.

"Through such competitions, students easily develop their skills in an initiative that helps to curb experience challenges when they get to the field to work,” Mfinanga noted.

He explained that the students’ efforts to build car designs that were provided by JICA with direct connections for control through the use of a remote is proof of how they can overcome challenges when given sufficient resources.

"When students are facilitated, they take their responsibilities to achieve what is expected of them,” he noted.

Other institutes that participated include; ETO Kibungo, EK Kabgayi, ETO Nyamata, Kicukiro College of Technology, and ETO Gitarama among others.
