Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Emmanuel Hategeka, on Friday, January 31, presented his letters of credence to the President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, as the High Commissioner of Rwanda to the Southern African country, with residence in Pretoria.
According to a statement, he conveyed President Paul Kagame’s warm greetings and his desire to strengthen the relations across all fields of mutual interest – between Rwanda and Namibia.
The two countries enjoy good bilateral relations which were bolstered by exchange of high-level visits including the State Visit by both President Paul Kagame and the late President Hage Geingob, officials said.
While presenting his letters of Commission, Hategeka pledged his support during his tour of duty to continue strengthening the existing good bilateral relations between both countries and cooperation in areas of Agriculture, Tourism, Education and ICT, technical cooperation as well as exchanges in any other field building on the General Cooperation Agreement (GCA) signed in 2023.
The High Commissioner designate commended the Leadership of Namibia for the recently concluded smooth electoral process and wished well the incoming President.
President Mbumba conveyed warm greetings and best wishes of good health to President Kagame. He indicated that Kagame and late President Geingob were good friends, and this friendship was extended to their people in both countries.
Mbumba emphasised that there should be mutual promotion of trade, tourism, peace, and security on the African continent.
He also pointed out that Rwanda has been competing with Namibia on cleanliness and recommended for this to continue. He further emphasised that collaboration in education should be supported with intention to develop the African talent.
During his stay in Windhoek – Namibia's capital, High Commissioner Hategeka held a meeting with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation during which he handed a copy of his credentials. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between both countries and cooperating in areas of mutual benefit to the peoples of both countries.
Hategeka also paid a courtesy call to the CEO of Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), Nangula Uaandja.
Discussions centred on promoting economic diplomacy through stronger business-to-business exchanges in trade, investment, tourism, and other services. In this regard, both parties committed to organising business missions between the two countries soon.
