Rwandan artiste Christiane Bukuru, widely known as Boukuru, has earned a nomination for the prestigious Prix Découvertes RFI 2025, solidifying her place among Rwanda’s top vocalists and live performers.
The announcement, made by RFI on Tuesday, January 28, revealed Boukuru as one of 10 finalists competing for the coveted award, which includes a 10,000-euro prize (approximately Rwf14.6 million), an African music tour, and a headline concert in Paris, France.
The finalists have successfully navigated three rigorous selection phases and will now be judged through a public vote and jury deliberation. The renowned Angélique Kidjo chairs this year’s jury and includes other respected artists and music industry professionals.
In its statement, RFI commended Boukuru’s "incredible talent” and encouraged fans to stay tuned for the voting link.

Boukuru expressed her gratitude and excitement, describing the nomination as an opportunity for herself and the Rwandan music industry, particularly for inspiring younger generations.
"It’s a big honor to make it to the finals. I promise to bring this one home,” she said confidently.
The young artiste joins a lineup of other talented nominees, including Sahad, Jenny Paria, Straiker, and Dina M, among others. Signed under the Metro Afro record label, Boukuru has been making waves locally and internationally, following the success of her debut album Gikundiro.

Boukuru has become a go-to favorite for Kigali’s live music show organizers, earning a reputation for her captivating performances. In 2024, she made history as the first Rwandan artist to grace the stage at Flytime Fest, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious music festivals and a powerhouse in Africa’s entertainment scene.
Founded in 1981, the Prix Découvertes RFI awards continue to spotlight emerging musical talents from French-speaking African nations. Over the years, it has featured notable Rwandan artists, including Mani Martin, Mike Kayihura, and Yvan Buravan, who took home the award in 2018.
