Rwandatel staff donated clothes to 165 street children that are being taken care of by the Rwanda Orphan Project (ROP).
According to Rwandatel’s Corporate Communications Manager, Cleophas Kabasiita, the staff of Rwandatel wants to act beyond being the custodian of cooperate governance.

"We take it as our social responsibility to take care of the community in were we operate so we are humbled the efforts of those who thought of the getting the Kids off the streets and we are honored to contribute to such effort,” Kabasiita said. 

ROP was formed in 1997 with an intention of helping street children that were scattered and homeless and it was foundered by Pastor Sylvester Nzitukuze.

Kabasiita also said that they pledge to working with the organization of the project especially in the sector were they belong and Rwandatel will endeavor to contribute towards their ICT skills soon.

According to the founder of the project, Nzitukuze, if it wasn’t for Sandra the project wouldn’t be surviving at the moment.

"After going back to the US, she (Sandra) arranged with her community and they started funding the project but of recent we are facing problems because their country was hit by the financial crisis and they are no longer sending everything and now we have to look for funds around,” Nzitukuze explained.

The project started small with the capacity of 20 children but after getting support from Sandra Barbra who was working at the American Embassy by that time.

The Director of ROP, Celestin Mitabu, ROP doesn’t not only give displinary to the kids but they also arranged classes from primary one to six were kids are offered fully-fledged lessons like other schools.

"We produce students to secondary and University levels and different activities take place according the willingness of the person,” Mitabu explained.
