Dar Port Kagame Cup: CECAFA sets dates for 2025 edition

Zambian side Red Arrows defeated APR 10-9 on penalties to win the 2024 CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup in Tanzania.

The 2025 Dar Port CECAFA Kagame Cup, featuring clubs from across the region, will take place from August 31 to September 14.

The announcement was made during the non-elective General Assembly of CECAFA, held in Juba, South Sudan this week. The Kagame Cup was listed as one of the five regional tournaments to be held this year.

The 12 member nations of CECAFA—Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Zanzibar—are all invited to apply for the hosting rights of the competition.

In 2024, the tournament was hosted in Tanzania, where Zambia's Red Arrows, as guests, triumphed over APR FC in a thrilling penalty shootout to claim the title.

Founded in 1974, the Dar Port CECAFA Kagame Cup is a CECAFA regional football tournament for clubs. In 2002, it was renamed after President Paul Kagame after he agreed to sponsor it.

Tanzania’s Simba SC is the most successful club in the history of the Dar Port Kagame Cup, having lifted the trophy six times.
