SUNDAY was another memorable day in Rwandan cricket as more records went tumbling. For the first time, a local cricket club scored in excess of 300 runs.

Challengers ran amok as they piled 332 runs in 44 overs against Kigali Cricket Club.

Praveen Kumar’s batting was the highlight of the day as the opening batsman hit a record score of 126 runs, beating Andre Kayitera’s previous best of 124.

Kumar’s knock included five sixes and 15 fours. He also received good support from Sairum Gopalani (47) and club captain Srinath Vardhineni (34) (pic).

In reply to this gigantic score, four-time Sulfo record champions KCC crushed out for a paltry 91 runs to hand Challengers a massive 241run victory.

The win also Challengers’ lead at the top of the league table with 11 points. KCC and Indorwa are tied in second place with five points. Right Guards have a point while defending champions Young Tigers are still looking for their first points.

After the victory, Vardhineni could not hold back his excitement. "It’s been a fantastic performance from the boys.

Kumar was phenomenon with the bat. He has showed that he is a top class batsman. He scored 78 in the first game and now, he has scored 126. Congs! to him,” he said.
