Kampala - Fashion is one thing that is unpredictable. Anyone who watches the fashion industry knows that the fashion world is made up of seasonal trends that come and go like the wind.

What was hot yesterday may be as cold as ice today and what was hot ten seasons ago may be making a surprising comeback.

No matter what the latest fashion trends are, you will always be safe investing in a few to complement your wardrobe, but always be sure to stock your closet with safe old fashion staples that will get you through from year to year.

One would think that wearing a shirt with vintage or a high waist skirt is so 80’s.  Interestingly, what might seem so 80’s is what is on vogue now! The trend has returned. In order for you to look styled up, you simply go ancient.

You just have to look old-fashioned to look cool. Try the 19th century styles and you will fit the perfect definition of great design.

If you have your grandparents’ albums; they will help you look stylish this time round. All you have to do is wear exactly what they used to wear and the fashion gurus will give you a round of applause.

Skinny jeans, big belts, natural afros, high waist skirts and trousers, vintage shirts and so on were our ancestors’ kind of style.

If you know of a style of clothing that your great grandparents used to wear and you haven’t seen it yet with anyone else, you have the deal!

It’s a matter of exposing it out to the public and the next day, half of Kigali will be dressed in it, like there is a pay cheque for wearing it.

Spoil yourself once in a while and just go old- fashioned and you will turn necks stiff. Go slow on the weaves and wigs because you might wear one that will make people think you’re celebrating Halloween day.

The ancient looking fashions are mostly appropriate for the weekend.

You don’t want to go to office on a Monday and everyone is looking at you like you are an alien or from Mars.

You should invest in a few of the latest fashion trends if you want to keep up with the fashion industry, but don’t forget the age-old staples that can save your closet and your wallet a lot of worry.

Always make sure that you have a well-tailored classic trench coat, a stylish pair of flats preferably in a black or a bold color like red, a cashmere sweater in a vibrant color, a sexy camisole, a slimming A-line skirt, a good pair of jeans (or two), at least five supportive bras, a great suit, an evening clutch, a pair of sexy strappy high heels, and of course, the little black dress.

As long as you have your closet stocked with these staples, you will be ready for day or night wear as many of them are so versatile they can go from the office to the evening out.

Like I said earlier, fashion is so unpredictable so don’t stock lots of trendy clothing because they are seasonal as well.  You might not be able to wear your ‘on vogue’ clothes after a year. So why not keep it simple.

Don’t be so much of a freak for all the latest trends for some don’t even last for a year.

Old fashion tends looks so elegant and not copying whatever the celebrities are wearing unless you’re the kind that loves too much attention.
