With just three days remaining before the start of the 2025 edition of Rwanda Women’s Basketball League on January 24, defending champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Women’s Basketball Club are in a run against time to renew the contracts of three of their key players.
The players in question are national team guards Destiney Philoxy, Sandra Kantore, and Rosine Micomyiza, each of whom has been instrumental to the team’s recent success.
The team is reportedly working to renew their contracts, though there are rumours that some may be seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Philoxy, Kantore, and Micomyiza were pivotal to REG’s victory in the national women’s league, and also played key roles in the team’s impressive run at the Zone V regional tournament, where REG reached the finals but were defeated by Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
In addition, they were also key as the team secured a spot in the Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA), where it finished in fourth place.
Philoxy, 24, an American guard, joined REG in the 2023 season, as did 31-year-old Rwandan guard Sandra Kantore. Micomyiza also joined the team in 2023.
