GICUMBI—Heavy rains and strong winds that struck Shangasha Sector of Gicumbi district for the last one week has left fourteen families displaced from their homes and crop plantations destroyed.

The winds also blew off the rooftops of Shangasha Primary school and a nearby Protestant church. The Executive Secretary of Shangasha Sector, Jean Baptiste Munyarukato called for immediate assistance to help the displaced families.

"We urgently need 450 iron sheets to re- roof the School and homes of the displaced families,” Munyarukato said.

The mayor of Gicumbi district Bonane Nyangezi visited the displaced families and promised to urgently address the matter while the Shangasha vice mayor in charge of social affairs, Vincent Ntakobisa said that the displaced families face the risk of water borne diseases and lack of foodstuffs.
