The defilement trial of the embattled director in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Jean Jacques Nyiributama, resumed on Monday held behind closed doors.

Nyirubitama is accused of defiling his 14-year-old housemaid.

"He asked Court that the trial be held in camera, and it was granted,” prosecutor Emmanuel Nsegiyumva told this reporter at Nyarugenge Court of Lower Instance on Monday.

Nyiributama, who is on remand at Kigali Central Prison, appeared before Judge Roserine Niwahazwa. During the trial, Nyiributama’s wife and the alleged victim testified.

The accused is represented by Athanase Rutabingwa and Richard Mugisha.

Both the lawyers and prosecutors could not comment after the closed session.

Prosecution alleges that Nyiributama defiled his maid August 18 at his home in Niboyi, Kicukiro District, while his wife was in hospital attending to their sick child.

The alleged victim was reportedly given Frw200 by her colleagues Jean Damascene Rusakaza and Bosco Kubwimana for transport to go and report the case to Police.

Nyiributama is expected to re-appear in court on November 5 during which more witnesses are due to testify.
