GICUMBI—Community work for Genocide prisoners commonly known as TIG, was officially launched at Rwesero Cell of Bukure sector, in Gicumbi district on October 10.
In attendance were the Governor of Northern province Boniface Rucagu, the National Executive secretary for TIG Eng. Evariste Bizimana and the in charge of TIG at Gicumbi district Eugenie Ingabire among other guests.
The prisoners comprised of 196 men and 4 women totalling to 200 prisoners. The prisoners dug terraces along Lake Muhazi to prevent soil erosion. A total of 200 hectares of the hills overlooking Lake Muhazi is to be terraced.
Gicumbi district is the fourth out of five districts that make up the Northern Province to officially launch community work for Genocide prisoners. The community work for Genocide prisoners started in Gicumbi district on 17th September 2007.
In his address to the prisoners, the National Executive secretary for TIG Eng. Evariste Bizimana called upon the prisoners to work willingly and complete their sentences.
"This community work is as a result of your participation in the 1994 Genocide that claimed many lives”, Bizimana told the prisoners.
