RAYON Sport is ready to release midfielder Honore Kabongo (above), Times Sport can reveal. The midfielder’s contract runs out at the end of the month and according to the Blues’ Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya, renewing the player’s contract is not part of their plan.

"As soon as the MTN Peace Cup ends, he will be free to talk to any club although we are already aware that Yanga are interested,” Gakwaya said.  "We wanted to renew his contract but he has clearly expressed his intentions to leave and there is nothing we can do about it.”

Tanzania’s mainland Vodacom Premier League champions, Yanga have beefed up their squad as they chase for an unprecedented third consecutive league title when the season kicks off on August 23.

Kabongo, is one seven players Yanga intends to sign in the off-season. At just 24, Kabongo has been all-over the place. He began his career in Renaissance Kigali.

In 2004, he had short-stints with Patro Maasmechelen and Sakaryaspor in Turkey before joining Hakoah Ramat-Gan in 2006. In 2007, he joined APR but was quickly snatched by Somalia’s Goldogob FC. In 2008, he had a short stint with Thai club Samut Songkhram before joining the blues.

Despite his short-stint with Samsung Krham, Kabongo continues to refer to the Thailand outfits as his former club, something which has not pleased Rayon Sport.

"This is stupidity,” Gakwaya fumed.
Kabongo has four caps for Amavubi Stars.
