Atraco v Mathare United

KHARTOUM, SUDAN - AFTER silencing Kampala City Council (KCC) 4-0 in the quarter finals, Atraco head into today’s semi-final against Mathare United with revenge high on their minds.

The national league champions fell to the Kenyan side 2-1 at the group stage of the on-going Kagame Club Championships.

After KCC‘s mauling, Atraco are expected to come out blazing against Mathare who needed post match penalties to beat defending champions Tusker (Kenya) 3-2 on penalties after the 90 minutes ended 1-1 in Wednesday’s quarterfinal clash.

Mathare’s Anthony Khadudu had cancelled out Jeff Oyando’s 15th minute goal with a clean strike on the 74th minute.

"We changed tactics against KCC and it worked for us. We also intend to make some changes against Mathare,” said Atraco coach Sam Timbe.

Apart from defender Aloua Gaseruka, who picked a deep cut on the head against KCC, all the other players led by their leading goal scorer in the competition Hamis Kitagenda are in perfect condition and raring to go.

Atraco are aware of the physical threat that Mathare poses especially from the likes of Kevin Oliech (brother to Kenya’s professional player Dennis Oliech), Anthony Khadudu, Chrispin Ocheing and former APR midfielder Titus Mulama.

"We are very ready for Atraco and we know what to expect,” said Mathare coach Francis Kimanzi, who also led Kenya’s Harambee Stars to second place during the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in Uganda last year.

By press time, home side El Merreikh were in action against TP Mazembe from DR Congo in the first semi-final clash.
