HUYE- Nadege Gitego was on Saturday crowned 2009 ‘Miss Values” in Ecole Notre Dame de la Providence Karubanda (ENDP). The crown came with an assortment of gifts including  one year’s school fees.

The 15-year-old S4 Math-Bio-Chemistry student fought off stiff challenge from six other students who made it the finals. The jury composed of former Miss Campus, Carine Rusaro Utamuliza unanimously declared Gitego the winner..

"I am at loss of words, I cannot explain how honoured I am to be crowned,” Gitego said. The visibly overwhelmed winner is also known for her excellence in academics. She was among the best three students in last year’s O’ level examinations in the Country.

Divine Giramata and Amandine Ndikumasabo both in S5 were voted first and second runners-up respectively.

Marie-Goretti Mukarubayiza, the school’s headmistress noted that crowning ‘Miss values’ was part of ceremonies to celebrate 50 years since the school was established.

"We want to show the public the values that we inculcate in our students. ‘Miss Values’ is supposed to be a role model to the rest of the students,” she told the cheering crowd gathered in the school’s conference hall.

She further appealed to students to always be role models wherever they maybe.

Theoneste Ndungutse, the organizer of the event and a teacher at the school, said the event is a bonus in promoting girls education.

"The competition will motivate other students to work harder and to live exemplary lives so that they are also rewarded next time” Ndungutse noted
