ITU committed to support ICT use

NORTHERN PROVINCE GICUMBI – International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary General Dr. Hamadour Toure, has advised Gicumbi District leaders to promote the use of information and communication technology among residents.

NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBI – International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary General Dr. Hamadour Toure, has advised Gicumbi District leaders to promote the use of information and communication technology among residents.

He made the remarks while touring Gicumbi District Community telecentre on Wednesday.

"What we are doing in promoting ICT is investing in our citizens,” Dr. Toure said.

Dr. Toure added that ITU is committed to supporting Rwanda in promoting ICT skills among her citizens, because the government has shown tremendous achievements in ICT development.

"ICT development is the only way to emancipate our citizens from poverty and ignorance.”

He was accompanied by the Minister in the office of the President in charge of Science and Technology,Prof. Romain Murenzi, the Director General for Science and Technology in the office of the President, David Kanamugire and the deputy Chief executive officer of Rwanda Development Board (RBD) Nkubito Bakuramutsa.

The guests were received at Gicumbi telecentre by Governor Aime Bosenibamwe and Mayor Bonane Nyangezi.
