SOUTHERN PROVINCE

MUHANGA — The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, James Musoni, has hailed the Southern Province for its efforts in promoting private sector investments.

Speaking during the provincial Tax Payers’ Day held at Muhanga stadium last Friday, Musoni urged for more collaboration between the private sector and the business community.

"There is evidence that the Southern Province has embarked on investment which contributes to national development unlike in the past,” Musoni said.

"This is a commendable effort and a sign of realistic change.”
While warning traders against tax evasion, Musoni challenged local leaders to widen their tax base in order to enhance national growth and development.

Francis Rutayisire, an official of Private Sector Federation in the province and Mary Baine, the Director General of Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), noted that the contribution of the private sector has improved as a result of change in mentality, close collaboration and partnership between the private sector and the business community.

On the same day, Musoni commissioned two new banks in the province; Urwego Opportunity Bank, and Cogebanque. He also served as chief guest for the official opening of  two hotels, GM Lando and Exotica Entertainment Complex.

The minister asked bankers to promote local investment opportunities in the province by enabling  easy access to loans. He also called for increased activities of micro finance institutions in the province. He reaffirmed government’s support towards development activities in the province.

During the occasion, outstanding promoters of taxation activities, including  best performing tax payers, and customer care providers were awarded trophies, certificates and other forms of rewards for their efforts.

Awardees included  the provincial administration, the National Police, Rwanda Defence Forces, 10 business enterprises and 32 cell leaders in the province.
