Heads are set to roll when the country’s top women basketball clubs clash this afternoon. Five-time league champions National University of Rwanda (UNR) host defending champions APR on day 2 of the national league.

UNR, who won the league five times in a row between 2002 and 2007 are desperate to regain their crown from the army side who reigned supreme last year.

While APR, won the 2008 title convincingly after five wins against the varsity side but UNR coach Charles Mushumba is adamant his side can clean up last year’s mess.

"We faltered last year but we are back to try and correct our mistakes. It is going to be a hard game because APR has been playing good basketball of late but we are prepared for the challenge,” he said.

Lilian Kayitesi (Center) and Esperance Mukaneza (point guard) will lead the varsity side’s surge. Both sides match into today’s tie on the back of impressive wins.

APR opened their title defense with an 85-42 win over ISAE while UNR recorded a 70-12 annihilation over minnows Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).

In the other day’s games, ISAE host KIE while UNR host KIE in the final fixture of the men’s first round.
