ITC in ‘60 crazy days’ sms campaign

Most of you must have seen a road show going around town last Friday. That was the beginning of a period, dubbed, “60 Crazy Days” which started on Friday June 5th and ends on August 5th. Anyone who owns a phone connected to MTN Rwanda Cell can at the end of the 60 days walk home with a brand new car.

Most of you must have seen a road show going around town last Friday. That was the beginning of a period, dubbed, "60 Crazy Days” which started on Friday June 5th and ends on August 5th. Anyone who owns a phone connected to MTN Rwanda Cell can at the end of the 60 days walk home with a brand new car.

Itec, an ITC company in Rwanda in conjunction with SMS Media has organised the SMS campaign. During this period, they will give out a car- Scorpiro Model 2006, two return tickets to Belgium, a computer and printer among other prizes. The final draw will be broadcasted live on Rwanda Television (RTV).

"We shall invite two independent adjudicators who will choose randomly three tickets from the ballot representing, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes,” says Nina-Claudia Ndabaneze, the General Manager Itec Rwanda.

Asked the essence of this campaign, Ndabaneze said, "We want to promote the services of our company, and make sure that we become the leading supplier of ICT solutions in Rwanda and the great lakes region.”

Ndabaneze also stressed that the promotion is to support the government’s vision to transfer the Rwandan Economy into knowledge based one and facilitate the Government’s 2020 vision by providing effective and visionary ICT solutions.

According to Ndabaneze, the campaign targets everybody, from the youth to the elders.

"This is why we are offering a range of different prizes, from Airtime, IT equipment targeted at professionals and cameras and i-pods for the youth.” 

Ndabaneze also emphasised the fact that this SMS competition, despite being the biggest that has ever happened in Rwanda, is also the latest way of using new and innovative marketing tactics to create momentum and buzz the country.

Winners of the daily prizes shall be notified via SMS with automatic loading of airtime won and for those winning weekly prizes, notification will be via SMS where they are invited to present the winning text at Itec store at UTC before they can walk away with their prizes

Weekly prizes include, 1 Fuji camera and 5 i-pods while MTN Airtime worth Rwf5,000, Rwf1,000 and Rwf5,00  will be given out daily and the grand prize which is a Scorpiro, Model 2006 car.

For people to visualise what they can actually win, the Scorpio will always be on display on the 1st floor of the UTC car park.
