Last night at the time of going to print, The New Times received information that fugitive Senator, Safari Stanley, had been spotted in Uganda.

A source in Kampala revealed that the Senator had been seen at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees’ (UNHCR) offices in the city. He was accompanied by some members of his family.

Safari was on Saturday sentenced in absentia, by the Gacaca court sitting in Tumba sector, in the Huye district, for crimes that include; Genocide, complicity in Genocide, inciting people to commit Genocide, being notoriously distinguished in the operations and participating at a road block.

Deputy Commissioner General of Police, Mary Gahonzire, confirmed that the Senator was indeed on the run, though she could not confirm his Ugandan presence.

"We are going to get him back wherever he is. We are using Interpol and we have issued a Red Notice,” she told The New Times last night.

She went further to explain that the police had processed his arrest warrant, and in collaboration with the Prosecutor General’s office, where the fugitive tracking unit desk is located, they would track him down.

The whereabouts of Senator Safari had been the subject of debate in the Upper House of Parliament last week. Some of his colleagues called for his expulsion since he had not reported to work for more than two weeks.
