Relationships: Be yourself for a fulfilling relationship

No doubt, love is a great thing, one that no one can go without. And in pursuit of love, many things have been done to impress hearts. However, pretending to be innocent is the most boring thing. Attempting to seem better and actually being better are two different things!

Unfortunately, while trying to hook-up with our dream partners, we tend not to be the real us. Let’s be sincere, who on the first date has ever gone without lying? Who has never pretended to be the most romantic man or woman the earth has ever seen only to change back to their original selves after a while?

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t say we should misbehave, but being ourselves is the more attractive. Keeping up appearances doesn’t last forever, and when you get caught trust me the would be love of your life won’t even think you did it for love. It will definitely be quits.

Concerning dating, real people prefer those who show their true characters.

"Better the devil you know than a saint you don’t,” states 38 year old Gerry Mugarura.

"In my life time, all the women I’ve met have either had one relationship in life or have never dated any guy no matter how mature they seem! This apparent lie puts me off totally,” says Augustine Kabayiza.

Indeed guys blame the fair sex for deceiving them especially in relation to the number of guys they’ve ever dated only to find out it was all a lie.

On the girls’ side, men have taken wealth as the tool to win love. It‘s common to hear some boasting of imaginary cars, money, buildings just to keep a stunning woman next to them.

"This guy borrowed a car to impress me. Later I learnt that he even had no job. I would have fallen deeply for him even without the lies but I hate him now,” says Clarisse Umutoni.

Love will never be compared to wealth or innocence. When we do this and that to win love, we are underrating it. As a matter of fact, there are many things that draw people together. It may be your outgoing character that he or she will like.

Hiding character is being unfair to yourself as well.

"Some girls pretend they have never been to a bar or a night club yet outgoing girls are fun to be with,” says Kabaiza. Of course not to mention is the ideology that every girl has to belong to a certain church in order to get a man.

Pretence is a turn off and does no good. Be yourself and love will come your way. Long lasting love depends on getting a compatible soul mate. How will you get one when you are lost in someone else’s character!

The best companion you can ever have is one who loves you for who you are.
