Algeria v Egypt

The national football team, Amavubi Stars, is set to arrive in the Zambian capital Lusaka this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s crunch 2010 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifier against Chipolopolo at Konkola stadium in Chililabombwe.

Amavubi have been camping in the Malawian capital Blantyre since last weekend, where they played and lost 2-0 in a friendly against the Malawi national team, The Flames.

Both teams were using the friendly as part of their preparations for this weekend’s qualifiers in the respective groups.

Branko Tucak and his team were preparing for Saturday’s game with Zambia, while Malawi, who are in Group Five along with Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Guinea were preparing for their home game against Burkina Faso.

Branko’s wasps are seeded in Group C with Zambia, Algeria and Champions Egypt and all the teams have one point after drawing their first qualifiers.

Egypt was held to a 1-1 draw Zambia in Cairo, while Amavubi played out to a goalless home draw against the desert foxes of Algeria.

Meanwhile, the Zambian national team has been rocked by injuries to two of their defenders Jimmy Chisenga and Chintu Kampamba and may not feature for the Chipolopolo this Saturday.
