Crying is not bad

One day Tim returned from school and to his surprise his mother wasn’t there. This meant that he was home alone. So he decided to play all afternoon with other children.

"I should go playing with Shelly and her brother,” Tim thought happily. He immediately changed and rushed to Shelly’s house. Once again, he was disappointed. Shelly’s mother told him that Shelly was not around for the whole afternoon.

Tim was really sad because he knew that only playing would get him out of his bad mood.

"What will I do now?” Tim wondered as he walked slowly back to his home. He sat by the stairs and just started thinking about his sad day.

He thought of his teacher who had shouted at him, he thought of his mother who was not at home and also about Shelly who would not be able to play with him.

Suddenly tears started streaming down his face and Tim cried.
Just then, a pair of warm arms went around him. His mothers face gazed kindly at him.

"I’m sorry mum, I didn’t know you were here. I was having such a bad day and I started crying, I didn’t mean to cry. I’m sorry,” Tim explained.

"No, it’s okay to cry if you are sad, my dear son” said Tim’s mother.

Tim was really happy to hear this from his mother. Crying made him feel better and he was really excited to be able to get it all out.

Sometimes, we all have bad days and are too embarrassed to cry. Crying makes us feel that we are weak and so we try our best not to cry.

Crying however, is not a bad thing and it does not mean that we are weak. In fact, crying helps us relax and get rid of all the stress we are keeping inside us.

Don’t feel bad whenever you feel like crying because it helps you release some of the hard feelings you are experiencing. So next time you feel like a cry just go ahead and do it. Don’t apologise, just cry.
