CAT/Tanzania money circuit
Doubles final
O. Nkunda & M. Dzuwa bt K. Kipingu & J. Rembris 6-3, 3-6, 7-5

AFTER being dumped out of the singles semi-final of the US$4,500 CAT/Tanzania money circuit, Olivier Nkunda got some solace after winning the doubles’ final on Saturday.

The Rwandan tennis player combined well with Zimbabwe’s Martin Dzuwa to see off the Tanzanian pair of Kiango Kipingu and Jacob Rembris 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Nkunda and his partner started well and wasted no time in claiming the first set. The Tanzanian pair recovered in the second set (6-3) but Nkunda and his more experienced partner Dzuwa powered through with a 7-5 third set victory.

Nkunda and Dzuwa pocked US$300 each for the victory.

Rwanda fielded four players in the four-day event. On top of Nkunda, Rwanda also fielded top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa, Dieudonne Habiyambere and Mathieu Uwizeyimana.

Like Nkunda, Habiyambere was also ejected at the semi-finals, Gasigwa lost in the quarter-finals while Uwizeyimana lost in the first round.
