Gasigwa vs Abdul Omar (Tz)

Jean Claude Gasigwa yesterday reached his first quarter-final on hard court after defeating Charles Steven in the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT)-Tanzania money circuit.

The Rwandan tennis ace saw off the Tanzanian in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Gasigwa is now scheduled to play his quarter-final later today against another home boy Abdul Omar.

However, yesterday’s highlight was on Tanzania’s Tiango Kitingu who stunned the circuit’s top seed Martin Dzuwa in the second round.

The unseeded player came from a set down to shock the Zimbabwean ace 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Dzuwa had progressed to the second round with ease after a bye in the first round.

Rwanda’s duo of Olivier Nkunda and Dieudonne Habiyambere also made it to the quarters after 7-5, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-1 victories in the second round. It was however another bad outing for Mathieu Uwizeyimana after a first round exit at the hands of Charles Steven. Uwizeyimana lost 0-6, 3-6.

Gasigwa is this week having to adjust his game to hard court, a surface that has terrorised him in recent years. The circuit climax is set for Saturday.
