KIGALI - A gang of four suspected murderers alleged to have taken part in the killing of Jean Marie Vianney Bashitsi has been arrested.

The suspects who are currently under custody include Joséline Kayitesi the wife of the deceased who is said to have plotted for her husband’s death, and Emmanuel Dusengimana, her brother.

The other two are Abudullehal Kamuhanda and Abdoulunuru Uwizeyimana who it is alleged, were both hired by Dusengimana to assist him kill his brother-in-law.

The suspects have confessed to the police and were yesterday handed over to the prosecution. In a brief interview with Uwizeyimana, he said that his friend Dusengimana gave him a call and they met in Nyamirambo, a Kigali city suburb.

"When I met him, he told me he wanted to get rid of his brother-in-law and by then he had a pistol; we went to Nyacyonga to test the gun but it had a trigger problem so we agreed to also carry with us another weapon that we would use in case it did not work out,” said Uwizeyimana. He added the group later met with Kaitesi and agreed on a total payment of Rwf200,000.

"We reached the house at around 10:00pm, Kaitesi had left the door open; Bashitsi tried to fight us and I shot but missed, Dusengimana immediately hit him with a hummer on the head and later finished him off,” said Uwizeyimana.

Despite Uwizeyimana’s testimony, police denied the media to interview other suspects claiming that they would not speak the truth as Uwizeyimana did.

The crime was committed in Gatenga sector of Kicukiro sometime last week. According to Police spokesman Chief Supt John Uwamungu, the suspects are likely to face a maximum sentence of life if convicted.

Kaitesi claimed that she got officially married to Bashitsi in 1996 when Kaitesi was just 14 while Bashitsi was 33 by then.
