Davis Kashaka’s experience came into play on Saturday as he won the 2009 Presidents’ Cup, his second major victory of the season.

The handicap 3 golfer beat his closest contender Marcel Byusa by a stroke after carding one-over par at the Par 72 Kigali Golf Course.

Kashaka, a former club and national team captain started off on the wrong foot with back to back bogeys but steadily got his rhythm back with a string of pars before shooting birdies on the 17th and 18th hole.

"The trick today is I tried to be cool on the ball. I also kept my head straight,” he excitedly said. He also dedicated the day’s victory to Jack Kayonga, the out going KGC president.

In the professional and semi-professional categories, Jean Baptist Hakizimana and Francis Habimana walked away with cheques courtesy of Bank de Kigali (BK) and Eco Bank, one of the competition’s sponsors.

Presidents Cup is an annual event on the KGC calendar held in honour of the out-going club president.

It is also a token of appreciation to the out-going president from the club members. It is a tradition for amateur golf in the region.
