AFTER losing the Kenya money circuit final against Zimbabwe’s Martin Dzuwa on Saturday, Jean Claude Gasigwa bounced back with victory in the doubles final yesterday.

Gasigwa, teaming up with Kenya’s Francis Rogoi thrashed Dzuwa and Otu Gabriel (Nigeria) in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to claim US$300.

The win was good consolation for the tennis ace and left him with something to spur him on in Dar el Salaam where regional players have relocated for the Tanzania money circuit.

"It was very important for me to pick up a good result today after yesterday’s defeat and I’m sure today’s win will give me a good plat form in Dar el Salaam,” the 26-year-old said.

In the singles’ final, Gasigwa lost the first set 4-6, but quickly rallied back with a 7-5 victory in the second set. The Rwandan ace kept the momentum going in the third set pushing the Zimbabwean to the edge but failed to finish him off.

Dzuwa consequently forced Gasigwa into a tie-break before eventually claiming the set 7-6. The game which lasted over two hours was living proof of the strong rivalry that is budding between the two players.

Gasigwa bagged US$850 in prize money from the four-day event.
