President Paul Kagame’s leadership is exemplary and highly appreciated shown by how many awards he is bringing home. Lately he has been nominated for the TIME Magazine ‘100 Most Influential Person of the Year’. Nominated by renown American Pastor Rick Warren, a past nominee himself, President Kagame, was lauded for having “helped put an end to the 1994 genocide against Tutsis and is now trying to lure investors to the region, drafting Tony Blair to serve as a business adviser”, as put by the American Magazine. One can tell the future of a country by its current state of affairs and if things continue at this pace, Rwanda is going to make greater strides and lead the path to development and prosperity in the region.

However President Kagame’s outstanding leadership will be upheld across generations only if we have more role models to look up to and steer the development process. Unfortunately very few people have the commitment and integrity it takes to drive the country where we want it.
We have seen many a great leader strive all the way to recognition and nomination only to end up in prison for selfishness or incompetence leading to grave mistakes and losses.
That is why sometimes the President sounds baffled whether we all share the same dream for the country’s progress and if we really want to be involved in it.
If given the opportunity, leaders should serve selflessly and wholeheartedly bearing in mind that they are answerable to the whole society especially the upcoming Rwandan youth who are looking up to them.
Leaders should also work towards creating long lasting and independent solutions that can easily work even in their absence.
Some of the greatest leaders are still remembered long after their reign because of establishing effective systems that are emulated up to date.
An example is Former South African President Nelson Mandela whose role in the anti-apartheid movement can never be forgotten years after his time as President.
President Paul Kagame’s leadership style is likely to linger in the minds of many for establishing a great economy out of almost nothing and effectively correcting the political mistakes of his predecessors.
Rwandan leaders should work hand in hand with the President to leave a greater mark behind and share in the glory of the future.
